Thanks to the 'citizens' initiative, under the Treaty of Lisbon in December 2009, the Europeans can ask EU to amend EU laws. We demand a ban on GMOs until it is established a new technical and scientific body, the more competent and independent European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
The petition was launched last March following approval by the Commission, the GM potato resistant to antibiotics, approved despite significant doubts on scientific grounds. Many countries are citing the Commission to the European Court of Justice for this license.
